Personal Support Worker
Personal support workers (PSWs) provide compassionate domestic care for the elderly, disabled or individuals recovering from illness or injuries. With many workers in this profession close to retirement and an aging population seeking more effective forms of home-based care, there is a growing demand for PSWs in Ontario. Personal support workers play a valuable role in the health care sector and may find employment in home-care organizations, long-term care facilities, adult day programs or hospitals and clinics.
CTS Canadian Career College’s 29-week Personal Support Worker program in North Bay provides the skills and knowledge to accomplish the diverse responsibilities encountered on the job. Students will learn how to assist clients with their day-to-day living requirements, including mobility assistance, personal hygiene, household management and meal preparation, administering medications and treatments. PSWs may assist clients with mental or physical disabilities and must respect their dignity and individuality while supporting the family.
Graduates of this program will be prepared to provide support services while interacting with other health care professionals in various environments. Upon successful completion of the program, students will write a comprehensive final exam set by the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC).
